Time

Am alive and I thank God for that...haven't been hiding either but been tied down to my new practice that I started 2 weeks back.
Gave myself the weekend off right after my psychiatry exam & powered up for the next which is Neurology for another 4weeks.And it's been crazyyyyy :-)
The schedule is packed up with activities and less time to study and relax. Neuro is one of the most uptight department in Dote and guess what??! They actually make us work.
An overview of the daily schedule.
Morning meeting -8.15am with Head of department, associate profs, assistant profs, attendings, residents & students.
Ward rounds-9.15am
Consultations- from 11am- whenever but not past 4pm
Call/Duty- once a week
Also an article presentation during the rotation
That's about it, oh yeah!!! each week is in a different ward, my first week was the male ward, just finished my second week in the female ward next off is the ICU. *can't believe I'll soon be done*

On the very first day (2weeks back) 4 of us started in the male ward and of course we were asked to measure the ABI *ankle brachial index* of all the patients on that floor which as to be completed before the next days ward round with the head of department...lol by this time we were emotionally physically and spiritually drained. Guess none of us had breakfast, thinking we'll have a designated time for lunch or snack but to our utmost surprise we didn't get any time off *stomach growling & tightening up*. We measured a few patients and decided to call it a day.
Next day got there early for the morning meeting, after went to our floor waiting for the ward round and who was in our faces (nurse) complaining of something *speaking hungarian*....apparently the "ABI" we were meant to measure was what was getting her all worked up. Our supervisor asked us to finish it up before the heads round, something that took over 40 mins on each patient the day before took us 10mins on each patient lol *adrenaline pumping* for fear of the head being crossed at us, we were done just in time as we turned it was the head walking right in....*happy ending*

The week went on okay, discussed our patients diagnosis and improvements. That reminds me, the joy that ended my first week, was this particular patient who was aphasic (difficulty in producing or comprehending spoken or written language) & maybe hemiparesis (weakness on one side of the body) *not sure now* anyways for the days we saw him there was no improvement in speech, understanding and movement but on the final day of our first week as we entered his room the doctors greeted him and he responded @ first I thought I was probably hallucinating  maybe the doctors too were hallucinating cause they asked him something and he spoke....it was for real!!! If I could jump for joy I would have. These are the things I signed up for in medicine, I want to be part of the people that bring smiles upon loved ones faces. *smiling* It was a good first week & I thank God.

Though through out myself and my study partner haven't really studied anything, we get so tired exhausted at the end of the day. God help us!!!

Brb...

Yours truly
Mee :-)
